Landscape Services
Developing a pleasing, functional, and ecologically sound landscape
requires careful thought and planning. A landscape design facilitates
a process to help you develop a vision for your project and provides
a “blue print” for getting the project done.
Whether you are looking to change or transform an existing yard
or community space, or to develop a completely new landscape, we
can work with you to create a landscape design to meet your needs.
Our landscape design service includes the following steps:
- You complete our landscape planning questionnaire (if desired);
- We meet with you at your home to discuss your interests,
needs and vision for the project;
- We conduct an on-site observation, assessment, and measurement
of your property;
- We create a preliminary hand drafted design and review this
in-person with you;
- Any required changes are made to the design and you receive
a “to scale” copy of the final design.
Our design specialties include:
- The incorporation of edible plants (fruits, berries, herbs perennial
and annual vegetables) into an aesthetically rich landscape.
- The use of native plants, and other beneficial plants and features
for attracting insects, birds, butterflies and other wildlife
to the landscape (“naturescapes”).
- Xeriscapes (very low water using landscapes) and other resource
saving techniques.
- Permaculture Design emphasizing the creation of productive
landscapes that are also ecologically sustainable and aesthetically
pleasing.
- Low-maintenance landscapes.

”Ron and his team are terrific. I would
hire them again in a heartbeat. Ron's landscaping was carefully
planned and thoughtful. I loved the way he consulted me and
reshaped the plans as the yard design unfolded. I had time
to react to the realization of our joint plans and Ron was
fantastic at creating aesthetically appealing arrangements
of plants, rocks, and other elements. My neighbours all came
by to appreciate and admire the new look of my yard, commenting
on how carefully and well Ron and his team worked. One neighbor
was so impressed that he copied some of the design elements
in his own yard down the street. Ron clearly respects all
living things--his customers, his employees, his plants, even
unknown neighbors and their pets who happen to pass by. If
you are looking for someone with excellent communication skills,
respectful of timelines and contracted deadlines, in addition
to environmentally friendly suggestions and artistic flair--contact
Ron.”

The benefits of compost to the urban landscape and garden cannot
be overstated. Good compost provides the macro nutrients (nitrogen,
phosphorous, potassium, calcium, magnesium and sulfur) and the many
other micro nutrients that are essential for plant growth and health.
Compost “feeds” the community of micro-organisms that
are essential for maintaining a vibrant and resilient soil. Compost
also helps to improve soil texture and to retain moisture, even
in times of drought.

We provide a high quality, locally created and fully cured compost.
Quantities are in units of cubic yards (minimum of one cubic yard).
One cubic yard is equal to a small- sized pick-up truck load.

Healthy soils are alive with millions of beneficial bacteria, fungi,
protozoa and other micro-organisms. Dr. Elaine Ingam of Soil
Foodweb Inc. has shown conclusively that soils with healthy
microbe populations produce healthier and more robust plants as
the microbes store and make available essential nutrients to plants.
A proper microbe balance also helps to protect plants from disease,
improves soil structure and reduces the need for fertilizing and
watering.
Most home soils are depleted in their soil microbe life due to
the use of chemical herbicides and fertilizers, lack of sufficient
organic matter and repeated soil disturbances. Through a special
process pioneered by Dr. Elaine Ingam, we prepare a “brewed
compost tea” that is teaming with the beneficial microbes
that your soil needs. This microbe-rich brew is then applied to
your garden beds ensuring that a healthy population of microbes
is re-introduced to your soil. With the proper levels of organic
matter, these microbe populations will continue to flourish for
years to come.

Catching and storing rainwater from house and garage roofs is one
of the simplest and most effective steps a homeowner can take to
create a more environmentally sustainable yard while saving money.
Rainwater is also much better than city water for gardens, trees,
and lawns as it is not fluoridated, it has a neutral PH, and it
is much warmer when used resulting in less shock to plants.
Our rainwater harvesters are designed to hook up easily to your
downspout and come complete with an inlet filter, ball valve garden
hose hook-up, watering can faucet, and overflow diverter. If desired,
drip hoses can be connected to your rainwater harvester creating
a highly effective and low maintenance strategy for watering your
garden beds.
